Many women are coming to prenatal yoga at the recommendation of their doctors. The Mayo Clinic has reported that Prenatal Yoga has been found to:
-Reduce stress and anxiety
-Increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
-Decrease lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath
-Decrease the risk of preterm labor, pregnancy-induced hypertension and intrauterine growth restriction — a condition that slows a baby’s growth
Prenatal Yoga Support System
Prenatal yoga can also help you meet and bond with other pregnant women and prepare for the blessings of being a new parent. Moms-to-be share their experiences and ideas with other classmates creating a impromptu support system.
At 38-weeks into their pregnancy, our prenatal mommies recieve a “Baby Blessing” ceremony honoring their transition from expectant mother into motherhood. It is a beautiful experience that really acknowledges the journey that each mom-to-be has experienced over the past 38 weeks, the good and the not-so-good, and honors her rite of passage into her new role as mother.
Prenatal Yoga Teachers
Crystal Rios – Crystal loves teaching our Prenatal Classes on Saturdays 11:30-12:45. She is currently in the process of writing a Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Manual for Cloud Nine Yoga School. “As a massage doula, I feel that prenatal yoga is one of the best things a mom can do to prepare for birth and parenthood. I like to look at prenatal yoga as a way to practice for birthing time and birthing time as an extra long yoga practice. As we go within and create an intimate connection with the self, we are able to create a deeper bond with baby.”
Veronica Silva, RN, RYT500 enjoys educating and empowering women through their prenatal yoga practice. As a nurse and yoga instructor, she understands the importance of balance of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual during the prenatal months; happy mommy = happy baby! Her prenatal classes are for all levels and encourage strengthening as well as improving flexibility. She also teaches breathwork that reduces stress, brings focus and helps prenatal moms during class as well as during labor. “Pregnancy is a sacred time in a woman’s life. It is a time to nurture yourself and your baby.”
Premdev – Premdev is a Doula and Kundalini Prenatal Yoga teacher who studied under Gurmukh. She loves guiding moms-to-be in their practice and knows the many benefits both mom and baby receive from Prenatal Yoga. Come to her Tuesday 7pm Kundalini Yoga Class and she will support any and all prenatal moms who participate.
